Although this dedicated collection only contains maazines from 1981-1988, LJMU SCA also holds a selection of New Musical Express issues from 1975-1992 within the England's Dreaming (ED) collection for their relationship to punk, as well as a few additional issues within the John McCready Situationist International papers (JMS).

AdminHistoryNew Musical Express is a British indie and pop music magazine, published every week from March 1952. It was the first British magazine to introduce a singles chart.
CustodialHistoryThe collection was transferred to LJMU Special Collections & Archives in August 2015 from the University of Reading. The publications in this collection originally belonged to Colin Masters Dredd (also known as Colin Dredd), the bass player for the Newtown Neurotics, who hoped that the publications could be left somewhere they would be consulted.

LJMU Special Collections & Archives also holds the papers of Barney Bubbles, the artist who redesigned the NME logo in 1979 and heralded the name change from New Musical Express to just NME. This can be found under reference BB.
