Description	This collection consists of our vast body of Special Collections books and other published material which is not archival. This includes but is not limited to: children's illustrated books; 19th Century periodicals; antiquarian books; artists' reference books; limited editions; special formats; and other rare and unusual items. Our Special Collections are particularly strong in the areas of: visual arts; fashion; 19th Century periodicals; children's books; and evidence of domestic and cultural life.
CustodialHistory	Some of the items in our Special Collections date back to the original Liverpool Mechanics' and Apprentices' Library, the predecessor for the Mechanics' Institute and Liverpool School of Art, and the earliest iteration of what is now Liverpool John Moores University.
